On the back of the photograph Eleanor has written 'Palace Cont'. I think she may have meant Palace Contarini but the view here does not match the most famous one of the round tower. My sister-in-law, Catherine, tells me that this is the entrance to the 'Golden Staircase' at the Doge's Palace. Obviously more research is needed!
